Overview

Contentr (game) & Section 230 reform.

Content Moderation, the practice of determining what user generated content is allowed and/or amplified, places several values important to our society in tension, namely free expression and community safety. The Ethics and Values in Design Lab at University of Maryland is using game play to offer participants the experience of being both a social media start up policy team and a contracted content moderator. More information about the game can be found here. Additionally, in 2021, the game was used as a way to start off a virtual citizen Panel. The official statement for the citizen panel can be found here.

If you would like to use the game in your classroom, feel free to reach out for advice (I would also love to hear how it goes and if you have feedback!)
